The research group of Genetics and Molecular Biotechnology (KK GBM) expertise actively participates in the Tridarma of higher education, with a focus on genetics and molecular biology. The development of science is carried out comprehensively from up to downstream in response to the dynamics of scientific and technological advances which include: exploration and conservation of genetic diversity, analysis of gene and protein functions, genetic engineering, synthetic biology, multi-omics (genomics, transcriptomics, nutrigenomics, etc.) which supported by bioinformatics and big data analysis.
The Genetics and Molecular Biotechnology Research Group consists of lecturers, academic and research assistants, post-doctoral and students, who are actively involved in mono and multidisciplinary studies at national and international institutions. Members of KK GBM also contribute to community service activities and cooperation with various industries. In 2020, members of KK GBM will take part in the research, testing, and control of COVID-19 at both the municipal and provincial levels. Main Tridarma activities in KK GBM include (1) Food and Agriculture Security; (2) Health and medical technology; and (3) Green technology.
Various awards have been received by the KK GBM, such as participation in various government and industry agencies as the expert team, the Indonesian National Research Council (DRN), the Indonesian Young Scientist Academy (ALMI), the Indonesian Young Researchers Forum (ForMIND), Indonesia Biogeography & Biodiversity (INABIG) Research Institute and the National Consortium for Vaccines. Also, KK GBM received various prestigious awards, including national and international outstanding lecturers, such as L’oreal Unesco for Women in Sciences, Indonesia Science and Technology, ITB Innovation Award, Schlumberger Faculty for the Future, Australia Endeavor Research, Scholarships Fullbright Research, The Award for Special Achievement of the Japanese Society for Biological Sciences in Space, and Rispro LPDP. Students of KK GBM members have also won several competitions, namely Indofood Research Nugraha, International Biology Olympiad (IBO), and Synthetic Biology (iGEM). Contributions to knowledge are presented in peer-reviewed papers, lay articles, and textbooks. The following are the patents and publications of the members of the KK GBM research group :
